Season’s greetings guys, gals, and enby pals! Whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope you had a good one. And if you don’t celebrate any – well, I hope y’all had a wonderful, stress-free day.
As per yoosh, today’s post will be another entry in Shealea’s #Project14Lists. To know more about #Project14Lists, check out Shealea’s intro post here.
This one will be all about my favorite TV shows to binge-watch while writing. I play TV shows in the background while writing my blog posts, and while working, studying, or writing, instead of listening to music or a podcast. Just in case this method of stimulating your brain juices works for you as well, here’s what I like playing in the background when I’m at my laptop!
Who doesn’t like this incredibly woke and yet super funny sitcom about the NYPD detectives of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct? I’ve watched all five seasons so many times, I can practically recite them line-for-line. Something about the wacky hi-jinks, witty one-liners, snarky comebacks, and sassy insults really gets my brain going!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
I’ll be honest. I hate this show. I think it’s trite and messy and utterly fails at its promise of being feminist and intersectional (I could go on to a hideously long rant about male consent, racism, white saviorism/cishet saviorism, and ignoring POC identity, but that’s for another blog post) – but I can’t help it. It is so aesthetically pleasing. The Weird Sisters’ on point outfits, the gray hazy weather in Greendale, the architecture of the Academy of the Unseen Arts, the Spellman Mortuary, the Church of Night, Ms. Wardwell’s makeup and wardrobe – it is all just so pretty and inspiring!
RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars
“I love you so much, mi amor, so much I wanna die!” Ayyeee, Valentina, caliente! But seriously though, Ru-Paul’s Drag Race and All-Stars is a pop culture phenomenon for a reason. The drama, the fashion, the comedy – it’s got everything for someone who needs a shot of creative inspiration.
This sci-fi and horror TV series captured viewers’ imagination with its throwback to 80s thriller classics, well-developed characters. And while waiting for Season 3 (when is it coming out already?) I like playing Season 1 and Season 2 while writing, studying, or reading. Honestly, if you haven’t seen this yet, what are you waiting for?
For a dose of good feelings and positive vibes, switch on this TV series about the Fab Five – Karamo, Tan, Bobby, Jonathan, and Antoni – making over the living space, hair and makeup, wardrobe, cooking habits, and attitude of their “heroes” (what they call their clients). It never fails to put me in a good mood and inspire me to be a better, kinder person!
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Honestly at this point if you haven’t watched A:TLA yet and have no plans of doing so, there is no hope for you. (And on that note, remember to add The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee on Goodreads!)
I wanna hear from you!
